Swelling

One of the more increasingly common uses of Lymphatic Drainage Therapy (LDT) is as a means of controlling post-surgery edema, or swelling.     Many procedures, including cosmetic (liposuction, breast augmentation/reduction) can result in excess lymph fluid accumulating in the body.  Lymphatic drainage may be the most effective natural means of alleviating common post-surgical lymph edema.  It has been effectively used to reduce the swelling, or edema, one suffers post-surgery, which can be one of the most uncomfortable parts of the recovery process.  LDT can assist you in a speedy and smother recovery.  One of my recent clients, who had knee surgery, was astonished at how much mobility she regained after her swelling was reduced.   Performing effective lymphatic drainage requires special knowledge, training and experience.  The therapist must have a comprehensive knowledge of the lymphatic system in order to move the fluid effectively so be sure to locate one who is certified.

If you are experiencing lymph edema now, for any reason, or are planning to undergo surgery, it would be good to consult with a Certified Lymphatic Therapist (CLT).    If possible, do not wait until you are suffering from the uncomfortable swelling before seeking your practitioner.   It should also be noted that a few sessions of pre-surgery lymphatic drainage is also recommended.  It can clear excess fluid and make cosmetic surgical procedures easier for the surgeon.   You may also want to consider budgeting for lymphatic drainage therapy ahead of time, as you may want several sessions.

Lastly, it is important to note that this therapy is non-invasive, relaxing and no pressure is applied to the already uncomfortable surgery site.  At Kauai Lymphatic Therapy, we use the XP2, state of the art electro-sound lymphatic drainage instrumentation. As lymph is effortlessly moved through lymphatic pathways, the client is left feeling calm, rejuvenated and relaxed.
